Long ago, in the Kingdom of Olde, the wizards council foretold of a coming darkness that would last for a thousand years. In response, they searched far and wide for those chosen by the gods, as indicated by a birthmark on their inner forearm in the shape of a maltese cross. These chosen few were to become the Templar Knights, a hand-selected defensive force against the dark arts.
The knights were trained in the secret arts of dark and light magic, with the purpose of keeping the forces of darkness at bay. They were forbidden from using their magic except as a last resort when their lives were threatened, in order to prevent the abuse of power. However, as time passed, the knights grew disillusioned and frustrated with the council's ban on the practice and study of magic.
Eventually, the wizards council voted to forbid any faction from practicing magic after the end of the Period of Darkness, out of fear that it could once again open up the realm to another dark time. This decision caused a division within the Templar Knights, between those who agreed with the ban and those who did not.
The Templar Knights, who were once known for their ability to harness the power of the old gods to fight the forces of evil, began to disband due to years of pent-up resentment and the recent dissolution of the Council of the Crusaders of Olde. Feeling lost and without purpose, they left their land in search of a new path forward.
